Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad is the third oldest institute (after IIT Roorkee, and IIT (BHU) Varanasi) which got converted into an IIT in 2016. The Institute traces its history back to the British era when the imperial govt founded an Indian School of Mines & Applied Geology at Dhanbad on 09-12-1926.
Today, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad is occupying an area of around 445 acres of land in the mineral-rich Dhanbad, accommodating around 8,101 students including 3,732 undergraduate students, 1,951 postgraduate students, and 2,418 doctoral students.

Age Limits
- 50 Years for Dy.Superintending Engineer
- 40 years for Asst. Executive Engineer
- 35 years for Junior Engineer
- Upper age relaxation is available to reserverd category candidates as per govt rules.
Educational Qualification
- Dy. Superintending Engineer (Electrical)
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with atleat 55% marks and at least 05 years of relevant experience – OR
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering with atleat 55% marks and 07 year relevant experience
2. Assistant Executive Engineer(Civil)
- Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering with atleat 55% marks and at least 05 years of relevant experience – OR
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering with atleat 55% marks and 08 year relevant experience
3. Junior Engineer(Civil)
- 3- year Diploma in Civil Engineering with atleat 55% marks and 04 year relevant experience
