World’s Tallest Railway Bridge
Where Is The World’s Tallest Railway Bridge Being Constructed?
Answer: Manipur in India
The Northeast Frontier Railway of the Indian Railways is constructing the world’s tallest railway bridge in Manipur. The bridge will be at a pier height of 141 meters, which is taller than the Mala – Rijeka viaduct (139 meters), Montenegro in Europe.
The bridge is a part of the 111 km Jiribam-Imphal railway project, declared as a National project by the Central Government in 2008. The construction work for the project started in 2008, and is expected to be completed by December, 2023. The project is a great boost to the broadgauge railway network of the North East.
Montenegro’s Mala – Rijeka viaduct, above the Mala Rijeka River on the Belgrade–Bar railway was the tallest railway bridge in the world when completed in 1973.
