UPSC Exam

UPSC Exams: Union Public Service Commission or UPSC is a constitutional body authorized to conduct various exams for the top-level government appointments i.e.,- Group ‘A’ officers of Government of India. The main UPSC Exams include Union Government:

Civil Services, Defence Services, Engineering Services, Health Science Services, Natural Resources Services, Architecture Services, Functionality Services and Law Services

UPSC got its present name after the Constitution of India came into force on January 26, 1950 (Article 315 of Part XIV of the constitution).

Until then, it was known as the Federal Public Service Commission. And its history traces back to 1854 when the British Govt. created an organization called the Civil Service Commission in London. Its main purpose was to conduct competitive examinations for the Indian Civil Service.

This organization underwent a lot of changes in its constitution, shape, objectives, and functions during the pre-independent era. Today, Union Public Service Commission is responsible for the appointment of top-level positions in various union services.

UPSC is an autonomous body and functions under a governing body comprising a chairman and ten members. The commission reports directly to the President.
