Wipro to acquire US-based Edgil for $230m

Wipro: The Indian Information Technology major Wipro has recently signed an agreement to acquire US-based cyber security consulting provider Edgil for $230 million, according to media reports. The deal is expected to be completed by March 2022, subject to regulatory clearance.

Established in 2001, Austin Texas- headquartered Edgile is a leading strategic cybersecurity and risk management services provider to a clientele consisting of some of the world’s largest companies such as  Microsoft, ServiceNow and SailPoint. According to Edgile, it works with 20% of the Fortune 500- companies, including 30% of the Fortune 100.

Bengaluru-based Wipro Limited is one of the premier technology companies engaged in IT services, including Systems Integration, Consulting, Information Systems outsourcing, IT-enabled services, and R&D services. Wipro is the Fortune India 500- company that ranks  29th by total revenue in India.

Wipro reported total revenue of ₹75,000 crores (US$10 billion) in 2021. The company is also ranked the 9th largest employer in India with over 221,000 employees.

According to Wipro, the acquisition of Edgile will strengthen its presence in the cybersecurity services space in the future.

“One of the key areas of growth for Wipro’s CRS unit is building strategy and consulting capabilities to increase our relevance with clients looking to transform their cybersecurity system, ” the company said.
